Frequently Asked Questions
HOW DO I ORDER CONCRETE OR AGGREGATES?
We have customer service professionals ready to assist you with your order. Call (866) 789-6833
Here are a few questions we may ask:
- How many yards do you need? (If you're unsure, you can give us your measurements and we'll do the math for you)
- What kind of concrete mix/aggregate do you need? (ex: 6 sack 3/8 mix / sand)
- Where is the delivery address?
- What day and time would you like the delivery?
HOW MUCH CONCRETE DO I NEED?
If you like DIY, you can make these calculations yourself! Start by measuring the area. You will need the length, width, and thickness of your slab. Then, you can use our Material Calculator to determine how many yards you will need. As a rule of thumb, when calculating your yardage, its best to round up half a yard, (ex: if calculator says you need 3 yards, its best to order 3.5 yards) this allows a little wiggle room for error.
HOW DO I KNOW IF I NEED A PUMP?
Our trucks need a clearance of 14’ high and 12’ wide. The chutes extend 12’ behind the truck. If the concrete chutes cannot reach the forms, you will need to either pump or wheelbarrow. Remember concrete is very heavy, so we are not able to pass over some terrain or surfaces.
HOW DO I ORDER A PUMP/HOW FAR CAN THE PUMP REACH?
We can coordinate a pump upon request. Most pumpers carry 200 feet of hose. You will need to order the correct pump mix according to the pump used and the job. We can assist you with additional information.
WHY DOES CONCRETE CRACK?
Concrete contracts and expands with changes in moisture and temperature. The best defenses against cracking is proper sub-grade and formwork, moderate slump (less than five inches), appropriate curing according to weather conditions, tooled or saw cut jointing, adequate cover over reinforcement. Discuss jointing and curing methods with the contractor that finishes the concrete.
WHY IS MY CONCRETE DISCOLORED?
Concrete which is not properly or uniformly cured may develop discoloration. Uneven curing will affect the degree of hydration of the cement. The discoloration may be minimized by proper moisture in the absorptive sub-grades, following proper curing procedures, and adding proper protection of the concrete from drying by wind and sun.
WHAT IS CURING?
Curing is the maintaining of an adequate moisture content and temperature in concrete at early ages so that it can develop properties the mixture was designed to achieve. Concrete should be protected from losing moisture until final finishing using suitable methods, like windbreaks, fogger sprays or misters to avoid plastic shrinkage cracks. Protective measures to control evaporation of moisture from concrete surfaces before it sets are essential to prevent plastic shrinkage cracking.
